There is very good news for the works at Sumitomo Rubber Industries, the former Goodyear Dunlop Tire Company in Tonawanda.
High demand for SUV tires has prompted the company to plan on investing $87 million in the facility over the next four years.
The goal is to produce 10,000 tires a day by the end of 2019. They currently put out about half that number.
Sumitomo Rubber says they have already started moving some production of tires from their Thailand factory to Tonawanda.
The company is looking to reduce sales lead times of high performance SUV tires to customers in North America.
The company employs approximately 1,200 workers.
